Daikoku: First Miso-Tare Yakitori in Singapore

In a city full of izakayas, it’s easy for the nights to blur: the same skewers, the same sauces, the same familiar rhythm. Daikoku Japanese Izakaya at Kada Maxwell sets out to change that, anchored by a Japanese chef with over two decades of yakitori craft.

At its heart is something Singapore has never seen before: Miso Tare Yakitori. Unlike the familiar soy-based glaze, Daikoku‘s skewers are brushed with two distinct miso – the bold depth of renowned Sendai miso and the gentle sweetness of Saikyō, a Kyoto-born white miso, a pairing rare even in Japan.

Then comes the otoshi, reimagined. In Japan, an otoshi is a small dish served with drinks as a gesture of welcome. At Daikoku, every alcoholic drink in the first hour arrives with a FREE side dish. Some guests treat it playfully, seeing how many different dishes they can discover, while others ask for the one they enjoyed earlier to return again. It’s casual, flexible, and always part of the fun – a reminder that discovery at an izakaya comes not only from what’s on the grill, but from the little surprises that keep the table lively.
